When we are out there networking, we are focused on impressing those we meet with our knowledge & skill but we often fail to make a personal connection. Networking Hooky Day is about taking the time to connect with the people we network with.
Back Story
I once worked with a woman who was excellent in her skills. However, she was a pill to work with. Our conversations only involved the task at hand.
After that company folded, all the girls would get together for dinner & drinks to catch up.
One such occasion, I found my self sitting next to Mary & thought to myself, “Oh great, I have to sit next to her all night”
Well, as it was, I had a blast getting to know Mary. You see, this was the first conversation we ever had.
Fast forward twenty years & Mary is a dear friend.
Moral of the story: we spend our networking time trying to impress with our skill & experience that we fail to make connections. We Fail to take the time to get to know one another.
Networking is about making connections. Networking Hooky Day is about making something more from those connections.
